75th
Anniversary
Celebration
and Conference on Agrarianism
This November
is the 75th anniversary of the publication of I’ll
Take My Stand. Authored by twelve Vanderbilt poets, playwrights,
authors and professors known collectively as the “fugitives,” the
collection of essays provided an intellectual defense of the South
and its Agrarian tradition. What the Agrarians were telling the
South and the nation was a way of life that omits or deemphasizes
the “more spiritual side” of existence is necessarily disastrous to
all phases of life.
